Rachel Wright Greek Revival Cottage

The restored Rachel Wright House is a 19th-century Greek Revival 2-BR
artisan cottage in historic Prospect Hill, in easy walking distance to IU
and Bloomington's vibrant downtown, parks, farmers' market, cafes,
shopping, etc.

The Rachel Wright House stands on the original Wright homestead that
is located in Seminary Township, reserved by order of President
Madison for the "use of a Seminary of Learning," which later became
Indiana University. Built by the Wright family circa 1875, the house's
handsome Greek Revival styling reflected the young republic's faith in
the democratic ideals of classical Greece. The double-pen architectural
plan came to America with the Scotch-Irish pioneers of Southern
Uplands. Its two front doors are said to represent open hospitality.
